Order of the PSL Draft 2018

So, how does the PSL Draft 2018 work?

Well, the Lahore Qalandars went first. They were then followed by the Islamabad United. Then came Karachi Kings, followed by Quetta, then Peshawar and finally the Multan Sultans. However, a trade between different positions could be made which is why the primary order of teams could be changed.

PSL Draft 2018 Purse Allowance

Each team was assigned a total sum of $1.2 million to choose up to 20 players from the draft. Different players in different rounds had varied costs. The platinum players are paid $140000 to $200000. Players in the diamond category are paid $70000 at the minimum. The minimum payment of gold players is $50000. Moreover, the silver players are paid $22000 at the least while the emerging category is paid $10000. Hence, the PSL draft 2018 was pretty expensive. No wonder the Lahoris went all out before they could choose the final player.

Players Retained in PSL 2018

Moreover, the retention and trading window was initiated on July 12th where teams were allowed 9 players which they could retain. They could also trade players. The teams can choose new players directly also, but these players need to come from the PSL draft.

For the retention, the past 5 team could retain 9 players, 2 each from platinum, diamond, gold, and silver while one from the emerging category. This amounted to 9 players that the team could own before the PSL draft 2018 took place.

Retention Players in PSL 2018 – What About Multan Sultans?

However, as the Multan Sultans were new in the completion they didn’t have any past players to retain. Hence, the Multan sultans were allowed 9 players from the 5 categories before e the draft. This would serve to even the odds of the team. However, Multan can only choose players in the PSL draft pool and cannot choose players that are already retained by the 5 other teams.

Multan may be at a disadvantage due to this arrangement. This is because it has to choose new players who never played together and hope for the best. On the other hand, Multan can choose some great players before any of the other teams can come in to get the bigger edge. It really depends on where the situation tilts during the games.

Multan ended up choosing Sohail Tanvir, Mohammad Irfan, Junaid Khan, Sohaib Maqsood, Irfan Khan and Kashif Bhatti as well as Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, Kumar Sangakkara as its retention players. All the team owners were given October 5 as the last PSL 2018 draft date to select and retain their players. All the different teams tried to make the best decisions.

This was all about PSL draft 2018. Now, only the match results will tell whether their decision was in their favor or not!
